| UniCAP is a modern laboratory system
comprising in vitro tests and highly automated instruments.
From a simple blood sample, UniCAP delivers fast and accurate
test results that provide physicians with valuable clinical
information. |
| |
[Features]High Sensitivity and High Specificity
ImmunoCAP consists of a CNBr-activated cellulose derivative
which provides superior binding capacity for allergens, short
diffusion distances and favorable reaction conditions. Numerous
clinical results from US, Europe and Asia Pacific region have
shown that results of CAP correlate better to clinical diagnosis
made by allergy specialists than to isolated skin test results. |
| |
[Safe, Reliable and Convenient]
CAP avoids all the possible hazards of in vivo tests and is
independent of patient's skin condition and medication effects.
It also saves doctors' time in doing skin tests and interpreting
the results. |
| |
[High Efficiency and productivity]
The new generation of immunoreagents and the consistently temperature-controlled
instrument environment ensures optimal diagnostic precision
and reproducibility. Determinations and reports can be completed
with automatic documentation in less than three hours. |
| |
[WHO Standard]
The assay is calibrated against the 75/502 WHO standard for
IgE. It provides standardized quantitative results that you
can compare with other laboratories worldwide. |
| |
[ISO 9001]
Pharmacia & Upjohn Diagnostics AB is certified to ISO 9001.
It operates in a documented and reproducible way with a consistent
level of quality. |

[UniCAP
100] Requiring only a simple blood sample, UniCAP greatly
simplifies the initial investigation of patients with symptoms
of allergy, asthma or autoimmune diseases.
Serum from the blood sample is sent to a local or regional testing
laboratory running UniCAP system. More than a thousand laboratories
worldwide offer this service today. Thanks to its inherent speed
and automation, UniCAP soon has a quantitative result ready.
For example, UniCAP 100, a stand-alone desktop unit for small
to medium sized testing laboratories, processes up to 48 tests
with up to four methods in a single run in as little as three
hours, including a written report.
All processing steps - sample, reagent and ImmunoCAP distribution,
incubation, washing, measurement and calculation - are fully
automated. Furthermore, the highly controlled testing conditions,
including stored calibration curves, ensure a reliable result
that can be trusted. UniCAP thus makes a major contribution
to accurate diagnosis and safe clinical decisions during treatment
and monitoring. |
| |
| Pharmacia Diagnostics, a division of Pfizer, develops,
manufactures and markets complete blood test systems to support
the clinical diagnosis and monitoring of allergy, asthma and
autoimmune diseases. |
| |
| Besides strategic management, administration and
business development, the international center in Uppsala incorporates
extensive research and development facilities, a state-of-the-art
production plant and a robotized cold-store and distribution
system operating cost-effectively around the clock. In Freiburg,
Germany, a second center develops and supports diagnostic tests
for autoimmune diseases. |
| |
| Allergy, asthma and autoimmune diseases are increasing
around the world, especially in industrialized countries. Young
and old are both at risk. One child in five will develop allergy,
which may persist as asthma throughout adult life. Peanut is
a popular snack and children and teenagers have suffered sudden,
fatal or near-fatal anaphylaxis after eating snacks and cookies.
Years of natural co-existence between body and immune system
can be broken without warning, making autoimmune disease a growing
and painful problem for people of all ages. |
| |
| Diagnosing such problems and helping those affected
to an improved quality of life is thus a growing concern of
physicians worldwide. |
| |
| With UniCAP®, Pharmacia Diagnostics is committed
to helping physicians make accurate diagnoses and sound management
decisions. |
